Investors assess the speculation of Taylor as next Fed chair

The greenback strengthened to a one-week height on speculation that the next Fed chair will be more hawkish. Dow Jones briefly passed 23,000 for the first time ever.

Here’s what caught our eye among stocks:

Dow Jones gained 0.2% to 22,997.44.

Stoxx Europe 600 lost 0.3%.

MSCI Emerging Markets slumped 0.4%, the first drop in more than a week.

Fairly large moves with the major currencies, led by the greenback:

The dollar added 0.2%

The euro dropped 0.3% to $1.1767.

The pound fell 0.5% to $1.3185.

The yen was barely changed at 112.22 per dollar.

A bearish session for commodities, safe for oil:

Copper plummeted 1.2% to $3.2015 a pound – first retreat in more than a week.
