US shares drop with gold's advance

Mixed equity trading during the Monday session

American shares gave way, while the dollar slipped with investors assessing the political situation in Washington before earning season begins. The Turkish lira collapsed in sights of the tensions with the USA.

S&P 500 Index fell 0.2% to 2,544.61 at 4 PM in New York.

Stoxx Europe 600 Index increased 0.2%.

MSCI All-Country fell less than 0.05%.

IBEX rose 0.5%.

MSCI Emerging Market declined 0.3%.


A rough session for currencies:

The dollar fell 0.1%.

The euro climbed 0.2% to $1.1749.

The Turkish lira fell 2.9%.


Fairly bullish session for commodities, especially the yellow metal:

WTI crude rose 29 cents to settle at $49.58 a barrel.

Gold futures added 1% to $1,287.60 an ounce.
